Bonners Ferry Visitor Center

Bonners Ferry, ID

The City of Bonners Ferry and the Idaho Department of Transportation wanted to establish a gateway rest stop and visitor center to welcome travelers from Montana and Canada to North Idaho. Bonners Ferry requested the design of the visitor center reflect the mining and timber heritage of the area. We accomplished this through using heavy timber (for what), log columns, cedar lap siding, and a building shape resembling the local historic mining and logging buildings. The visitor center includes restrooms for travelers, an information center about the area, and a second floor viewing/meeting room. The second floor viewing/meeting room provides panoramic views of the Kootenai River and mountains to the East. Display walls are found throughout the center to provide historical information about Bonners Ferry and the Kootenai River Valley.
