The Kootenai Humane Society has been at their current location for 40 years and was in great need of a new, modern animal shelter.  Growth in Kootenai County over the past 40 years has strained the capacity and functionality of the existing animal shelter.  The existing facility is well past its useful life and does not conform to the needs and requirements of a modern animal shelter.

The new Kootenai Humane Society animal shelter will provide a modern facility for temporary care of dogs, cats, and other small animals in our community until they can be adopted.  The new shelter will provide improved and enclosed kennel areas for dogs and cats, a much larger and functional veterinary clinic, an expanded lobby and front desk, exterior meet and greet areas and play areas, proper offices for administration, enlarged laundry facilities and a large community room.
